4-H VISUAL ARTS
The 4-H Visual Arts project are includes Fine Arts, Arts & Crafts and General Crafts. This projects teaches artistic skills and the elements and principles of design. 4-H members explore techniques, study art history, culture, and discover their talents. Be creative; draw pain and work with different mediums.
4-H VISUAL ARTS AT THE EDWARDS COUNTY FAIR
4-H'ers are allowed to enter 4 entries per Fine Arts Classes and 4 entries per Arts and Crafts, with a limit of 14 entries all together.
4-H Fine Arts Rules
- Articles exhibited should be an original design created by the exhibitor. 4-H exhibitors should avoid using copyrights and/or trademarked materials whenever possible, by originating his/her work.
- Designate on the entry tag or label if work is considered to be original in design (artist did not use a pattern or copy another person's idea, etc.).
- A hanging exhibit should be appropriately framed and mounted with hangers attached so it can be displayed as such. All exhibits must have a wire or sawtooth hanger attached for hanging (no string or tape).
- 4-H members may only display exhibits in classes they are enrolled in.
4-H Arts & Crafts Rules

- Designate on entry tag and label if work is considered to be original in design (not a kit, did not use a pattern or copy another person's idea, etc.). Exhibitors are encouraged to create original designs.
- 4-H members may display exhibits only in classes they are enrolled in.
- Multi-piece items should be marked accordingly.
- No plants or plant materials needing watering can be entered as an art display or item.
COPYRIGHT
4-H'ers are required to follow copyright laws, citing all sources of information in a standard notation. Kits and preformed molds are not considered original works and are not acceptable in any Visual Arts Class (both Fine Arts and Arts & Crafts). Combining parts of different patterns - pictures, photographs, images from the internet or a magazine - with a member's own ideas can result in an original design, but simply changing the color, patter, and/or size of pattern does not make the design original. If a photo, sketch or other idea source was used, submit it with your entry, firmly attached to youth exhibit. Sources of information must be cited on your exhibit.
COMPETING AT THE KANSAS STATE FAIR
One item from each of the 5 categories will be selected from the Edwards County Fair (entered by eligible 4-H'er 9 years of age or older) for the Kansas State Fair. Categories are Fine Arts, Clay & Ceramics, Leather & Jewelry, 3-Dimensional, and General Crafts.
